Cassidy Ways in On Ghostwriting in Hip Hop

Since Meek Mill exposed Drake for using ghostwriters for majority of his songs, including the verse he laced on R.I.C.O (a song on Meek;s latest album), rapping have been giving their opinion on the issue of a rapper using a ghostwriter. In his recent phone-in interview with DJ VLad, Cassidy gave his 2 cents on the issue.



"It's been plenty of rappers that I have liked they music my whole life before I knew them and then when I got a chance to meet them they wanted me to write for them. So I'm like 'Damn.' I'm writing for niggas that I look up to because I always thought they was crazy, but it wasn't really them that was crazy. It was them and a group of niggas, whoever they was working with at the time, that got them crazy or played a part in them getting crazy..."

Hmm! And it gets more interesting. "

Cassidy Once Handed R Kelly and His Crew Guns For Protection

Yea; that's what Cassidy Larsiny is saying in his new interview with VLad TV. It was actually back in 2004, when R Kelly and Jay Z had issues while touring together. Cass was a guest performer during one of the sets, as his Hotel song with R.Kelly was popping back at the time. And when things got a bit ugly between Kellz team, and Jigga's crew, without knowing the full story, Cassidy handed some guns to R Kelly's crew. 

“I was going to Madison Square Garden. We was about to go over there and perform. It was when he was on tour with Jay Z. This was my first time—This was going to be my first time performing a song actually with R. Kelly…We never did it together. This was gonna be the first time. So, I was excited. And then it was in a big arena. That was a big situation, so I was happy. I go in Madison Square Garden. I’m backstage…I’m in there busting it up with my homies and all that. Next thing I know I see all this commotion. I hear all this noise. I see people running and all that. I don’t know what’s going on though. I wasn’t over there. Then, you know what I’m saying, one of R Kelly’s people that I knew came in the bathroom and let me know that it was a problem out there. They was going through something. I ain’t know it was with Jay Z. I ain’t know who it was with...And at the time I was running around reckless anyway,” he said. “So, niggas was strapped up. So, when I heard they was going through problems—So, they could be more protected. I don’t know if they had guns already. I don’t know. I ain’t get into all that. Just to hold them down and make sure they was Gucci I gave them some pistols. But at the end of the day it’s like I had to get my pistols back. So, I went to the hospital and got them back.”

Lupe Fiasco Names Rappers Better Than Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar gets brought up in a lot of hip hop debates, and you have to give it to the guy as one of the best rappers of this new generation. So, Lupe Fiasco was being interviewed on Hot 97 FM by Paul Rosenberg recently, and Rosenberg asked which new rappers he listened to. And he named a few rappers...including Young Thug, and Big Krit. Rosenberg, being the biggest Kendrick Lamar Stan on the planet, asked Lupe if Kendrick makes his list, and Lupe said...







 "I've always been a fan of Kendrick. I'm not a nut-hugger like you...Listen, Kendrick is ill. He's super ill. To me, the whole TDE team is the illest team. They're the illest team that I've seen in maybe 5 years. Ab-Soul's on the album. That's my homie...I'm trying to work with SZA right now...I love the creative collective they got. As an emcee, I wish I had that. Lyrically, no, I don't think Kendrick Lamar is the best. To me, MF DOOM is the best."






Hahaha! Good one, Lupe. This Paul Rosenberg is an annoying Kendrick stan. He is almost like a female in love or something. Of course I like Kendrick, but I don't rub that in people's faces all the time. Anyway, the interview continued, and Lupe was asked to name rappers he feels are better than Kendrick, and Lupe answered with...




"On some lyrics, I listen to lyrics, of the young emcees, I think lyrically, it's it's King Los, it's Logic...Cassidy. Lyrically? Stop playing with me." 



Well, I do feel Lupe and Kendrick are on the same level lyrically, but I think Kendrick is better than Cassidy. Cassidy has one flow, and hasn't grown much since the mid 2000s. King Los is a problem for sure. 

Cassidy Speaks on Why He Is No Longer Interested in Battle Rap

Back in the day, Cassidy was popular in the battle rap scene. He even battled Freeway in the early 2000s, and murked him. But, this is 2014, and Cass says he is no longer interested in that spot. He feels doing anything that would jeopardize the money he is making with his mainstream music career doesn't make sense for his future. Read his words on this below. 





During his recent sit-down with VladTV, he was asked if he would ever consider the battle rap circuit again, and he said...



“That shit is a business. Now back in the day, before it was a business, before I was making money, that’s what I was doing all the time ‘cause that’s where I was at in the game. But now everything I do I get paid for. I’m not gonna go battle some nigga and fuck with this permanent money that I’m gonna be able to get forever to just please a couple niggas. That shit gon’ have to make perfect sense. The nigga I battle gotta be a perfect nigga so after I do it—I know the outcome, what it’s gonna be. He gon’ get destroyed. But after I destroy him, I’ll be able to bring shit to the table for Mayhem Music, my family, my team and not just no 30 [or] 40 grand. That shit ain’t about nothing. That shit ain’t about nothing.”

New Music- Cassidy: 'Lookin Ass Bitches (Nicki Minaj Reply)'

First of all, don't get things twisted, this is not a Nicki Minaj diss track, this is a reply to the concept of a Nicki song. She dropped a new song, 'Lookin Ass Nigga' a couple of day ago, and since the song was dissing guys, Cassidy made his own version dissing chicks. This is something like what Sporty Thievz did with No Pigeon, which was a reply to TLC's No Scrubs back in 1999.

Cassidy Working On Gospel Rap EP

Cassidy recently dropped a diss record titled Raid, where he gives Meek Mill some lyrical ass whopping. The two had had words on twitter for a while, and after Meek dropped a diss record aimed at Cass, Cassidy was quick to reply with a 10 minute long diss record. Fast-forward a month into the future, and Cassidy is talking about making a gospel rap EP with a Pastor from his home town, Philadelphia...a pastor that also had problems with Meek Mill in the past.

"When I came from jail and recovered from the accident I definitely felt obligated to talk about my relationship with God because that's the only way that I could make it through those situations that I was in," he said. "That's why I did the album B.A.R.S and did a lot of songs like 'Done 4 Me' and 'Leanin' on the Lord' with Angie Stone...I just wanted to show people that you can come from the streets, you can be around a lot of different things but still have a relationship with God and be an artist and talk about it...I feel as though I can bring a lot more people that wouldn't normally listen to gospel music or really be concerned with the lord to spread the word. I know that's what the lord wants you to do. That's pretty much the direction that I'm going in [with my EP with Pastor Jomo K. Johnson]."

He added, "Even if I only get one person to get in the church or get saved or develop their relationship with God, it was worth it and more important than anything else that music will bring to me. That's the reason that I'm in the lane that I'm in and do what I do."

Like Cassidy, Pastor Jomo K. Johnson made headlines for feuding with Meek Mill over the alleged sacrilegious message of his song "Amen." Although the EP has yet to receive a release date, the proceeds from the project will be given to charity. (hiphopdx.com)

Cassidy Sprays Some "Raid" On Meek Mill

Cassidy has replied Meek Mill's "Repo" track, which was a diss song aimed at Cass. "Raid" is the title of the diss track made by Cassidy going at Meek, and it dropped a couple of hours ago. The track starts off with an old recording of Meek Mill bigging up Cassidy-

"Everybody know Cassidy does what he do man, know what I'm saying. It ain't easy to get around them punchlines he gon' bring to you in a battle. I don't care what you say, how it sound back then or, you ain't getting around that in no battle. It ain't easy, you know what I'm saying? That boy, that's what he do professionally, he been doing it. I seen Cassidy been in probably more than five-thousand battles, you know, and I don't think he had one L. And I don't think a new guy is gonna step up and give him the L that easily." ("Raid")


I guess Meek never knew a time would come when he would have to go against the man he was bigging up. He probably never thought he would ever be as successful as he presently is. You can check out some lines from the diss below-

Cool diss track, but I personally don't like the fact that Cass fired shots at other members of MMG, it kinda sounded like he is really desperate for attention. Cos, really, all the artists on MMG have their own individual fan base, and cover pretty different audiences. He would have just stuck to dissing Meek. I smelt a lil envy in there.

Cassidy Used To Write Raps For Meek Mill Back In The Day

The battle between Meek Mill and Cassidy has been on for a while now. On and off, on twitter, on wax. People need to know that the two of them are from Philadelphia (Philly)  and used to be close before Meek Mill blew up with MMG. Cass has been in the game since 2003...Meek started popping around 2011.


Now, after Meek dropped the "Repo" diss going at Cass (a reply to Cassidy's "Me, Myself, & iPhone), Cassidy has come forward to speak on their past, and how he used to write raps for Meek Mill-

"He used to call my phone all the time, always asking me to hear his music. I actually used to help him write his raps and give him information back in the day, but ever since he got his deal, things changed," he said. "He stopped calling me, stopped communicating, stopped doing records together — it's like he was a whole different type of person. I reached out a couple times, I don't know if he was just busy or if he just changed, but it wasn't exactly the same as before he [got a deal].

"I know how it is, because I've been on for over 10 years, so I know how it can be sometimes, especially when you're having your first run and a lot of attention is on you, so I didn't feel no type of way about it," he continued. "That's not the reason this battle thing came about, but at the end of the day, I do feel as though it's not how it used to be before he got on."

Cassidy said that he thought battling would be "good for Hip Hop" by bringing back focus to lyrics and being competitive, but that it doesn't extend beyond wax. "It's not personal beef. I don't wanna see anything happen to him or anybody around him," he said. "I'm just competitive and I take my music seriously. At first I was gonna leave it alone. I thought he wanted to battle me, like he was calling me out, but when I found out he wasn't, I left it alone — until he started tweeting certain things about me and being disrespectful." Meek Mill Responds To Cassidy Diss

Meek Mill and Cassidy have been going back and forth of late, more on twitter than on wax. But, yesterday, Cass dropped a new track, "Me, Myself, & iPhone", where he dissed Meek Mill directly, on the last verse. Now, Meek Mill has brought back the battle challenge he put forward to Cassidy (in which he backed-out after Cass accepted) a couple of weeks ago.

Cassidy Drops Meek Mill Diss- Me, Myself, & iPhone

Two Philly rappers, Cassidy and Meek Mill used to be cool, but not anymore. One is from an older generation, but is not as hot as he once was. Meek is obviously hotter right now, and things haven't been cool between the two ever since they got into a twitter beef earlier this year. There was even a time, a couple of months ago, when Meek Mill said he would battle Cassidy for the right price, but backed out when Cass accepted the challenge.





Now, in a new track from Cassidy titled "Me, Myself, & iPhone, Cass goes at Meek Mill on the last verse. I see this song as a jab, just to get Meek to reply, and then Cass would come with a hotter diss track. You can read some lines from the song below-

Cassidy Agrees To Battle Meek Mill

Meek Mill recently put word out there that he would battle Cassidy, and maybe Murder Mook for $100k; and like A.S.A.P, Cassidy responded saying he is down with it. I think this would really be great for Hip Hop. In a time when everything is all "sweet" with Hip Hop; it would be cool to take it back to the gritty...to bring that underground hip hop feel to the mainstream.

"Well, you know, that's what I do, man. I mean, I'm cut from that cloth. I started off with battling so I'm into that but ever since I got a deal and started getting money up in this industry, it wasn't really beneficial for me to battle especially with a bunch of those dudes that are battling all the time," Cass said in an interview with radio host Q Deezy. "I know I'ma bite they head off but it's like, really, what am I going to get out of it? ... Meek got that wave right now, he a household name, bigging him up -- we definitely can get a nice crowd, get some crazy sponsors and get some chicken up. So it'll be beneficial for me to do something like that." (Q Deezy)

This would def be an interesting rap battle if it does go down.

Meek Mill Down To Battle Cassidy

Cassidy has a reputation for killing Freeway in a rap battle in the mid 00s, now, his fellow Philadelphian  Meek Mill says he is ready to battle Cassidy...or even Murder Mook. But there is a catch- he says he don't freestyle for free. There has to be a fee of $100k dollars or above before he would get in the ring.

"I ain't scared to do it," he said. "I was the first to do two tours without really having an album out. The first to do three million downloads in an hour or two. The first to jump back in the ring to battle. One of the first to be rocking arenas when people in cities never even heard of me. Why not be the first to jump back in the ring and do my thing? It's what I love."

He also explained why he has no fear of losing in a battle. 

"I don't think you could damage me in no type of way where I would lose that bad where somebody wouldn't want to buy my albums or participate. I don't even have polans on losing...Since [being 13], I never ever lost a battle. I've probably battled 1,500 people in my life."

Mill went on to share that he feels he can take Battle Rap into a different level, where emcees get more compensation for their work. 

"I'm a leader. I don't follow people. We have a lane to take this to another level where a whole 'nother money circuit could open up. I'm a leader. I'm willing to take that leadership and when I take that leadership, don't be mad when I'm the only one getting that leader money." 

So, how much would it take for Mill to battle? The MMG emcee says he'd need a check for $100,000 or more.

"You gotta have $100[,000] or more. I can't do it for free. That ain't my lane...Win, lose or draw - just for even stepping on the court." 

In the end, he also shared a short list of potential battlers.

I would definitely like to see that...i mean Meek and Cassidy battle. I know Cassidy is a battle ready rapper, but i don't know about Meek Mill...I know Meek has that killer delivery, but that is not what is needed in a one on one on the spot battle rap. You need to be spontaneous with the lines. I will watch what comes out of this.

Cassidy Speaks on Recent Arrest

Philadelphia rapper, Cassidy was arrested last week, and it made headlines because people were narating it as being in connection with a murder, but it happened that it wasn't what it seemed it was.

"In reference to the recent inquires regarding Barry Reese (aka Cassidy), on Saturday, May 14, 2011, Reese was arrested by Hackensack Police for a probation violation for a previous aggravated assault incident in Philadelphia," said the Philadelphia Police Department's public affairs office in a statement sent to XXLMag.com. "Reese was placed in probation violation status for non-reporting only. Reese is currently being held in Bergen County Prison awaiting extradition to Philadelphia. Reese is not wanted for any other crime / violation in Philadelphia." (XXL Mag)


"I'm still on probation from the situation I dealt with about six, seven years ago," Cass told Cosmic Kev in an interview. "[Me living in New Jersey,] that's why the police bought the whole SWAT team...I wasn't even sure what I was charged with. they bringing the whole SWAT team out, they talkin' about I'm on maximum security, I'm armed and dangerous -- I didn't even know what I was goin' down for. I was really shocked when i heard the first news, because i can remember when he caught that murder case like 6 years ago, and they were talking "life imprisonment" for him, but he was able to reduce the sentence.
