Top 5 Nigerian Rappers

In 2014, a couple of rappers that were hot in 2012/2013 have gone cold, so I want to list the top 5 rappers in Nigeria that are still on top of their game.






5.  Ice Prince
He may not be the most skilled rapper, but you got to give it to the dude for putting in the work. He was probably the hottest in 2012/2013. He did his thing with his Fire Of Zamani album last year, with all the hits and multiple international collaborations.





4.  Vector
Even though I still can't get over the fact that he sounds exactly like Jay Z, I can't dispute the fact that this dude is super talented. Listening to the two songs (Popular and Police) he dropped towards the tail end of last year, you know the dude's music will stand the test of time, and become the classics of the future.









3.  Phyno
After he and Olamide collaborated for Ghost Mode two years ago, Phyno hasn't looked back ever since. From Man Of The Year, to the numerous guest appearances he does, Phyno lets the world know that he is not just a fad, but the real deal.







2.  Reminisce
I was skeptical about dude at first. I heard his early party jams in 2012, and even though I heard some creative lines in them, I thought he was going to be a flash in the pan. Then 2013 came, and he started dropping real raw rap songs. He still does songs like Daddy (feat. Davido) to keep the show-money flowing, but this dude has got bars for days. The fact that he spits his rhymes in a mixture of Yoruba and English doesn't reduce his fan-base, but the mystique around that makes him more popular.








1.  Olamide
I tell people all the time that Olamide is the most hard working rapper in Nigerian music history, period! I think he had to work harder than ever to prove people he wasn't a Da'Grin wannabe, and that he had his own style too. This dude is killing everything right now...dancehall songs, rap songs, R&B songs, afrobeat songs...you name it. He is super versatile, and he doesn't seem to be slowing down with the creativity any time soon. I crown Olamide the King of Nigerian rap right now in 2014.

Jay Z Ranks His Albums From Best To Worst

Jay Z show has a lengthy discography, and two days ago, on his 44th birthday, he took to his website (lifeandtimes.com) and ranked his albums from best to worst. He dropped his first album (Reasonable Doubt) in 1996 and dropped his twelfth album (Magna Carta Holy Grail) this year...that is 17 years of consistently releasing albums. Check out his ranking below-

What do you think of his ranking? Personally, from having listened to all his albums, I have some reservations. I think The Blueprint 3 should be up where American Gangster is, and American Gangster needs to be further down the list. I got that album when it dropped back in 2007, and I just didn't get any spark from listening to it. It is a 3.5/5 album to me. And I also think...matter of fact, I don't think, I authoritatively say The Blueprint is better than Reasonable Doubt, and should have that number one spot. People rank Reasonable Doubt higher cos it was his first. I ain't saying it wasn't dope, it was/is a super dope album, but The Blueprint is better. The problem people have with ranking Blueprint higher is the same as that of people not wanting to put Stillmatic over Illmatic.



And for Vol. 2; the album just gets a lot of of credit because it is Jay's best selling (over 5 million copies sold) album to date, and it had that Annie song that blow up his career. The album had some great songs, but it had too many features, and it definitely wasn't cohesive. It was Just like a compilation album or something. If you are a real lover of hip hop music, and not just a 'bandwagon' type of dude, you will agree with me on this. Anyway, every other placement on the list is somewhat accurate.

Derek Jeter Names Top 5 Dead Or Alive

Rappers have been known to name which rappers they rate as the top 5 dead or alive in Hip Hop, but it is all good to have a sports person name his list to. Baseball legend, Derek Jeter was at the ThisIs50 (50 Cent's website) building a couple of days ago, and when asked for his top 5 dead or alive, he said...




"That's a tough question. You know I got to put 50 [Cent] in there. I'm in his building so I can't get in trouble. 50. Biggie. Jay. Eminem. Michigan [guy], you see I got my Michigan shirt on. How many's that? Diddy too. I like New York. I stick with New York."






What can I say about his list? Well, nice list, but Diddy? Even though Diddy's first album, No Way Out  has sold 7 million copies to date since it was released in 1997, I still don't consider him a rapper. Diddy doesn't even write his own raps. Diddy is a business man that knows how to use every opportunity available to him to the optimum, but he is not one of the greatest rappers in my eyes. Anyway, that's the guy's choice.
