Is Jay Z Racist For Wearing a Five Percent Nation Medallion

Last week Tuesday, Jay Z was court-side at a Brooklyn Nets game with his sexy wife, Beyonce. The couple had their fashion game on point, but it was really one piece of attire on Jay Z that caught the people at NY Posts eyes. Jay had on a five percent nation medallion, and has had a lot of people talking. The five percent nation group is a small sect that was started sometime in the 60s by Clarence Smith, who broke away from The Nation of Islam. Basically, the beliefs of the Five Percent Nation is that 10% of the world population manipulates 85% of the world population, and they (the five percent nation) are the 5% that have to enlighten the 85%. They also believe that black men are gods, while white men are devils.

The NY Post wrote an article on Jay Z being Racist for wearing the medallion. But a member of the group, Saladin Allah has said that Jay Z is not an active member of the Five Percent Nation. His words are below.

“Jay Z is not an active member — no one has vouched for him. It was always understood that you don’t wear the regalia if you don’t totally subscribe to the life.”

Jay Z was also wearing the medallion during his The Breakfast Club interview late last year. During the course of that interview,  Charlamagne the God asked him about the chain, and he said it wasn't his, that he got/borrowed it from someone. What i believe is that Jay Z is fascinated by the group, and maybe he contacted one of the members, and the person gave him a chain and welcomed him to the group. His initiation to the group may not be known by all, but Jay Z sure knows a lot about the group. On his verse off Jay Electronica's 'We Made It' remix, he rapped..."I'm God, G is the seventh letter made/So when my arms and feet shackled I still get paid/All praise due, I'm ready to chase the Yakub back into caves/these are the last days, but do i seem fazed?'

Okay, let me translate what Jay was saying with his words above. He calls himself God cos that's what Five Percenters believe all black men are. And the reference to G being the seventh letter is about the numeral 7 which is in the middle of the five percent nation medallion, which still goes back to the group's believe that black men are gods. And the line about him wanting to chase the Yakub back into caves refers to him wanting to chase white men/the devils back into caves. How so? According The Nation of Islam (which five percent nation sprung from), Yakub was the creator of 'the race of devils or white race. As the story goes, after being exiled from Mecca, the new race lived in caves, eating raw meat, for centuries before escaping and, through tricknology, enslaving the black population.

Hmm! I have to confess, when I started writing this post I didn't know all this...I researched as I went on. Personally, i think Jay just got himself in a lot of trouble with White America. lol! This is definitely racist. But the funny thing is that, regardless of how deep all these seems, and how enlightening it might appear, it is still all fairy tale; just like most of man's religious beliefs from time immemorial. The truth is that we all are equal, and have God potential in us, regardless of race. We all are that which we call God. But, really, it is very very hard for the common man to believe this.
