This Week's Top Selling Rap Albums on Billboard's 'Top 200 Albums Chart'

Future owns the best selling rap album on Billboard's Top 200 Albums Chart this week. His sophomore album, Honest sold 53,000 copies this week to hold that spot. Iggy Azalea is right behind him with her debut album, The New Classic, which sold 52,000 copies in its first week out. I have a feeling Iggy would surpass Future in sales in a couple of weeks.

It is still a long way to Gold status for Rick Ross's Mastermind album, but at 320,000 sold so far, it is still the highest selling rap album of 2014. No heavyweight is dropping soon, so I feel he is going to hold on to that title for a long time. Oh yea, 50 Cent is dropping his Animal Ambition album next month, but I see that project selling about 80,000 copies first week, and maxing out at about 250,000 total.





Three new albums dropped this week...Iggy Azalea's The New Classic, Future's Honest, and Asher Roth's RetroHarsh album. Out of the three, I think Iggy's album would be on the chart the longest; that girl got the teenage market on lock-down right now.

This Week's Highest Selling Rap Albums On Billboard Top 200 Album Chart

As expected, Jay-Z is at the top this week. His 12th studio album, Magna Carta Holy Grail sold 527,000 copies first week. These are numbers for the CD's physical sales, asides from the one million digital copies he sold to Samsung Mobile. This are huge first week numbers for someone that has been in the game for 18 years. But I am not surprised, cos the hype around the album was just incredible. And asides from that, Jay has been known to sell 400-600k first week with most of his past albums. This is his 10th solo number 1 album; it's only his first two albums (out of his 12 album catalogue) that didn't debut at number one on Billboard.

This Week's Top Selling Rap Albums On Billboard Top 200 Album Chart

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis continue their reign as the top selling rappers yet another week on Billboard top 200 album chart. Their [The Heist] album sold 22,000 copies this week, and they are now at a total of 798,000 sold. The album should go plat by end of August.

This Week's Top Selling Rap Albums On Billboard Top 200 Album Chart

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' The Heist is the highest selling rap album on the billboard top 200 album chart this week. It sold 22,000 copies, and now puts the duo at a total of 776,000 sold so far. I'm wondering who would cross that million sales mark first; Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, or Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick is at 913,000 sold total of his "Good Kid, M.A.A.D City" album, and that's closer to plat than the duo, but he is not selling as strong as them weekly. Anyway, we will know in about 2 months.

Top Selling Rap Albums On Billboard Chart This Week

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis continue their dominance on this chart...and on many other charts. Their "The Heist" album sold 23,000 copies this week, and now totals at 472,000 copies sold so far. For an album released via an independent label, that is unheard off. Big thanks to their smash hit, Thrift Shop, and Macklemore's perseverance ..the dude has been trying to blow up for the last 13 years or so, but people think he just got on the scene. He actually dropped his first EP, Open Your Eyes in year 2000. So, I guess he and his creative partner (Ryan Lewis) deserve all the success they are now getting. By the way, their single, Thrift Shop has sold 2.2 million copies in the U.S to date...and is still selling.
