Did Modenine Diss his Hardcore Fans?

You can't talk about Nigerian Hip Hop music without mentioning Modenine; he is a pioneer in the rap music genre in Nigeria, and he is still  on the scene. Although he hasn't been able to successfully make any crossover hit songs, his hardcore fans still stick with him, and give him accolades at any chance they get. But it seems he is really tired of them dictating which path his career should go, considering the fact that they are just a very small portion of the population.

Read what he said about them below (during a recent interview on Bang Radio's Afrohits Show) and tell me if you think it was disrespectful towards his hardcore fans. During the course of the interview he was speaking on his attempts at making commercial songs (like the song with mo chedda- 'Whut You Want), and then he said...

"...and the guys that knew me from way back that are used to that hard stuff, they be like 'Modenine, you don't go in no more.' You know, it is sad because they are like just 53 of them men. And if 53 people buy your CD...it is really sad."

LOL! Funny. The truth is bitter. I am glad he has woken up to that now. That small select of people that love his hardcore stuff can't support him enough to make him live off his talent, and most of them don't even buy his music...they illegally download it.
