In his recent interview on Power 105.1 radio (with DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne), one third of The Lox, Jadakiss spoke on not getting caught up on the past if you want to move forward and be relevant in the present. I think this is a good idea, cos most of the 'stuck in the 90s' rappers have kinda totally vanished off the Hip Hop scene. Ofcos you don't have to follow what is hot now. You can keep doing your thing, add a little spice to it (with up to date production), and still be felt by this generation of rap music listeners- like what Jay Z, Eminem, Nas, and Snoop Dogg have been able to do. Those four have been able to stay relevant through three decades of rap history; the 90s, the 2000s, and the present decade, without losing the basic elements that make them who they are.
So, during the course of the Breakfast Club show interview on Power 105.1 radio, Charlamagne asked Jada..."How hard is it for you at this point to be like 'back in my era...'" And Jadakiss responded with...
"Yea, you know you can't get caught up with that. You start...You start putting yourself in a bubble...you float outta here. You just gotta be...Enjoy the music for what it is and make a marriage of it. I can not forget who I am and what I do, but I still gotta...you know, use some of the seasoning that they use now on my plate." (Jadakiss Power 105.1 Radio Interview)
Well, he makes a lot of sense. And by the way, Jadakiss is about to drop his fourth solo album, Top 5 Dead Or Alive. The album is set for a November 20 release date. That means the album drops in exactly two weeks from today. Mark your calendars.
