Rick Ross's second album in 2014, "Hood Billionaire" has done a full week in stores, and it sold 70,000 copies. I predicted this album would sell about 80k first week, so this is around the quantity I knew the album would sell. Def Jam achieved what they planned to do. His last album, Mastermind which dropped 7 months ago sold 179,000 copies first week, and they thought, if they can use the buzz of Mastermind to release another album (which had left over songs from Mastermind, and a few new songs)), it would be a great investment.
People might look at the numbers as low, but this is a success for Ross and Def Jam. When you have rappers like T.I selling 80k first week off a heavily promoted album, and you have your artist selling just about that same numbers with a rushed album, then you are cool. How many rappers are moving this type of units on Def Jam right now, except from Jeezy and Kanye West?
