Nas Comments on Kendrick Lamar's Upcoming Sophomore Album

This seems to be what the whole Hip Hop world is waiting on right now...Kendrick Lamar's sophomore release. I don't think his first album is a classic (maybe a strong 4 Star), pretty dope album, but not a classic. But that is just me against the world. Anyway, Nas was asked in his new Complex interview if he feels Kendrick will deliver on his second album, and he said...

"I know he got it. There's no way he can mess it up because the love he has from the game is so large that he can almost mumble on the record and it's going to be in rhythm and it's going to be next level. So he's in a great place because, again, there're so many single artists that the album artist just holds up as a whole different kind of value. And he's that kind of guy. So whatever he does, in my opinion, will be appreciated but at the same time he knows he has to bring it. It's about challenges, right? Life's about challenges. In this game it's about challenges." (Complex)

Let me quote a part of Nas's interview...'the love he has from the game is so large that he can almost mumble on the record and it's going to be in rhythm and it's going to be next level.' Very true. All my 19 years listening to Hip Hop music, I have never seen someone get so much love from the Hip Hop community. I mean, 50 Cent got mad love when he came out, but some people hated that he came in the game beefing everybody. Eminem was huge, but some people downplayed his skills saying he was selling only cos he was white. When Nas and Jay dropped their debut albums, I was still a young teen getting to know what's up with Hip Hop, so I can't really remember the reaction of people to them at the time. But this Good Kid from a Mad city named Mr. Kendrick Lamar has sooooo much love right now. It is cool to know he is dope, so he wont disappoint his fans. But even if he didn't drop something as good as his first, he would still be praised, so he really can't lose right now. But he sure needs to drop that Sophomore album in the next couple of months...his last album was two years ago.
