Rick Ross is Still Winning

Hate him or love him, Rick Ross is still winning. Just think of all the opposition that has come his way in the last 3 years- from Young Jeezy's jealousy moves, the GD (Gangstar's Disciples) threats, actual attempts on his life on his 37th birthday, to Freeway Rick Ross taking him to court over his name use...all that, and Rozay is still making moves. Don't get me wrong, I am not a big fan of his recent works, but I respect his hustle. People have been making it seem like he was a Correctional Officer that stole a former drug dealer's name (Freeway Rick Ross), and wham! He became rich. They forget he actually had to put in years of work to be where he is. They also forget that he was a C.O for just a year when he was 19 (in 1995), and he didn't release his first album (Port of Miami) till he was 30 years old. There is a lifetime between that gap. One of the reasons why I keep riding for dude is because I don't believe it was just his signing with Def Jam that made him rich. He must have been doing something before that...something, anything, but definitely some form of hustle. I saw his version of MTV Cribs back in 2008, and he was already living in his Miami mansion.

That house cost $2 million, and he sure didn't get no $2 mill from his deal with Def Jam. In a recent interview, he even said the MTV crew was shocked when they got to his crib. They couldn't believe someone that had only one album out, and had been on the scene for less than two years could be living in such opulence. Come on! If you are not a 50 Cent or Jeezy stan (both rappers hard beef with Ross, and it made most of their fans HATE ross) you would drop all that C.O talk, and respect the man's hustle. Again, I am not saying he is the best rapper out there, but just respecting his moves. He has his own label, he continues to drop albums (that sell at least 500k copies with every album), makes hundreds of thousands from touring yearly, makes millions from endorsement deals yearly, and he has been in hip hop's forefront consistently for the past 5 years.

The name use can be an issue, but even the judges at all the courts Freeway Rick Ross has taken him to have ruled in the favor of Rick Ross. And about him not ever selling drugs, no one knows that for sure. How was he getting money all those years after he quit his C.O job at 20, till he made it big at 30? If you aren't blinded by hate, then you would make sense out of what I just typed. And lets say he didn't sell drugs, he definitely isn't the first rapper that rapped about being a drug kingpin that wasn't. The whole mafioso sub-genre of rap was big in the 90s, and legends like Jay Z, Raekwon, Biggie, Nas, Kool G Rap, Ghostface Killa enjoyed off of the popularity of it. There is no record of Nas ever selling cocaine like Pablo Escobar. It is just music for Christ sake! That is what some kids don't want to get. Even rappers people respect like Kool G Rap, Jay Z, Nas, Styles P, Raekwon, and Pusha T have all done songs with him. In fact, two of the greatest rappers in hip hop history, Nas and Jay Z have done multiple songs with him, so that alone is enough for people looking down on him to rethink their actions.
