D Banj Made President of Def Jam Africa...Signs Davido as First Act

It's official, D'Banj is president of the newly formed Def Jam Africa. Judging from an interview of him i read last month, it appears this has always been on his mind. In fact, he pitched the idea to Island Def Jam. There is so much talent in Nigeria and Africa, and this would be a good outlet for them. As his first move, he has signed teenage star, Davido to the label. I think things can only get better from here...not just for D'Banj, but the whole Nigerian and African music scene. I know there are going to a lot of people saying that Davido has joined the Illuminati...hard-work,  a believe in yourself and dedication equals success, there is no magic to it.

Earlier this year when D'Banj and former friend and business associate (Don Jazzy) broke tiers and dismantled the once untouchable label, Mo Hits, majority of opinions was that D'Banj wouldn't make it without Don Jazzy. I saw the situation differently. Of course Don Jazzy is/was the creative genius, but D'Banj was/is the brand. And with the kind of energy and enthusiasm that D'Banj puts in his music, there is only up for him to go.

I am just happy that the two are doing great; Don Jazzy continues his Nigerian Music scene domination with his new Mavin Records; and D'Banj making history and doing what no Nigerian has done before...and opening doors for other Nigerians in the process. Just reading all these tweets on twitter, of Europeans and Americans (not Nigerians in Diaspora, but white people) talking about how much they like D'Banj and his music is so inspiring. By the way, D'Banj's Oliver Twist song is number 9 on U.K I-tunes chart. This is not a chart for African category, but a U.K Chart, plain and simple. ou can see from the other artist on the chart. Tell me which other Nigerian musician has done that...i mean, breaking in from Nigeria.

Yes, D’Banj has signed Davido to his new label, Def Jam Africa. Def Jam Africa is the African arm of Island Def Jam which is under parent company Universal Music Group, home to some of the biggest superstars on the planet.
I’m told from very reliable sources that the deal was initialized about 2 weeks ago in Atlanta, US (both acts are pictured partying it up at a club in Downtown ATL). But it was only finalised this past wednesday, the 16th of May. Details of the deal remain sketchy. But one thing’s certain… This Is Massive! (notjustok.com)

The pic at the side was taken at a party in Atlanta U.S.A recently...K-Switch, Davido, a friend, and D'Banj.
