Who is Nitty Scott? That's the question on a lot of people's minds, after she performed as part of the just concluded B.E.T Awards Cypher. She came out of nowhere, at least to a lot of people, and just dropped that 1,2 flow on em. Her twitter page blew up, and she has been gaining at least a thousand followers a day since the Cypher.
So, who is she? She is a female rapper from broklyn new york, who stated that she was heavily influenced by Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill, Jean Grae, and Mc Lyte. If you heard her on the Cypher, and you know these people she has mentioned as influences, you would know she is a perfect blend of all of them. The Mc Lyte traces are more visible, but it is clear she just doesn't put words together for the fun of it, she is saying something.
Nitty Scott MC, as she is also known as, has that 90s feel to her music, and the way she drops endless punchlines but still sticking to the script is just brilliant. You can check out this link- Deep Cover Freestyle to get a taste of what i am talking about. She is currently launching an independent music movement known as The Boombox Family, which focuses on organic, lyrical, message-driven hi hop.
Her mission statement is- "to be apart of a movement and not an industry, to be socially responsible and charitable with her influence, to inspire art and educate listeners, to promote substance in mainstream entertainment, to be praised by critical acclaim, and to document an era via the written word.
No words on her signing with any label yet, but with her just gained national popularity, that would happen in no time. You can check out her B.E.T Cypher Here. Her performance slapped me to alert. She came out of nowhere, and left me smiling. I had been waiting for someone like her for a long time, little did i know i wasn't the only one.
