Mobb Deep Speak On New Label

Mobb Deep, the legendary duo rap group comprising Prodigy and Havoc, just signed a new record deal, and they have come forward to let their fans know what's up. I can remember seeing that video of It's Mine, where they featured Nas back in the days, and i just go hooked on them after that. That shit was a classic men...real fucking music. Then there was quiet storm with Lil Kim. I think they are legends in this music business, but i hope they would be able to blend in with what is bumping right now in hip hop. Their last album was Blood Money (2006), which was the only record they dropped while with G-Unit, was ironically their lowest selling album. Apart from Juvinile Hell- 1993 (which was more or less like what Infinity is to eminem...meaning it was more like an underground album), all their other 5 albums either went Gold or Platinum. Could it be that they lost some fans messing with 50 cent? I respect their hustle, and i have always been a fan. I wish them all the best.

Read what they had to say about the record deal below-

"After almost 20 years in this industry, it was inevitable for us to take matters into our own hands. We feel that RED is the perfect home for our brand," Prodigy said in a press release issued to MTV News. "We know who our fans are and what they want from Mobb Deep. We're excited to take a new step in our career," Havoc added. President of RED Distribution Bob Morelli offered his support of the newly inked group and label. "Mobb Deep is an iconic act, having been on the cutting edge of music and social commentary for years. We are happy and excited to distribute the next chapter in their musical career." (MTV)

I guess the deal is  like an indie deal, where they get  100% rights on their albums/materials, and the label just helps with distribution. I think that is a great idea. They also individually spoke on when fans are to expect their new album.

"Hopefully if not [this year], early next year," Havoc told XXLMag.com when asked when him and Prodigy's next LP would be released. In the meantime, the duo will be dropping off a gift strictly for the streets. "We're gonna be doing a mixtape and stuff like that," added. "We're gonna be dropping a new song in a few days. It's gonna be nice!" (XXL Mag)

"We'll be dropping the single for the [new] album soon," P said in an interview with Bootleg Kev. "That's the only thing we're focusing on right now, the Mobb Deep album -- it'll be [available] before the new year. We ain't letting nothing out the bag [with features] - just know, it's that hard sh*t...[Alchemist], Havoc, the home team, you know? Mobb Deep, you know how we always do it." (Bootleg Kev)
