Up until now, no artist had sold 1 million digital copies of an album. Of course, a lot of artist have sold million and millions of copies of digital single tracks, but none had actually sold a million copies of a full length album until the Pope of rap, Eminem just did it with his Recovery Album. I have to say that i am surprised at this; i mean, i am surprised no artist has ever sold up to that in digital copies of an album. Hmm!
Eminem would definitely go down in history as one of the greatest recording artist ever. I think he can't even be boxed in the Hip Hop corner; he is...i don't even know the word to use for him...he is phenomenal. And the funny thing is that the more he acts like he doesn't give a flying fuck about the whole music thing, the more records he sells. But i must say, Recovery was a wonderful album. Apart from showing a very matured Eminem, he also showed how skilled he still is.
This record-setting career milestone comes just one week after the artist landed at No. 1 with Hell: The Sequel, the release from Bad Meets Evil, the duo formed by Eminem and fellow Detroit native Royce Da 5'9." This marks the first time in the last five years an artist has scored two No. 1 albums within a 12-month period. "Recovery selling 1 million digital albums is an incredible achievement by an incredible artist," says Interscope Records' Vice Chairman Steve Berman in a release. (USA Today)
As i have said before in one of my write-ups, i think Royce Da 5'9 made the best decision of his entire life when he decided to make that Bad Meets Evil EP with Eminem- that album is going to keep bringing him money till he dies. Okay, i am exaggerating a little, but eminem is just something else when it comes to record sales. Recovery has sold 3.9 million physical copies in the U.S alone; that is more than any rapper has sold in a long time. Except from Lil Wayne's The Carter 3 which has sold 3.5 million since its 2008 release, no other rapper has sold this much in the last 5 years.
Read what his longtime manager, "Paul Rosenberg" had to say about the news-
"We are thrilled to congratulate Eminem on the history-making digital sales success of Recovery. Over the years we've made a concerted effort to engage Em's online fan base so this achievement is especially rewarding. Eminem made an amazing album with Recovery and the fans responded in record numbers." (Statement)
