Nelly's 5th album, 5.0 didn't do so well ; it didn't even go GOLD, but the first single off the album made it a success in Nelly's eyes. And he is so excited about it that he is currently working on another album. Just A Dream sold 135,000 copies the first week it was released for digital download. Since it was released last year, it has sold 4 million copies. I think that is really great, but it is unfortunate that Nelly has joined the league of ring-tone rappers. If you didn't know, back in the early 00s, Nelly was the only rapper competing with Eminem in album sales. His debut album, "Country Grammar" (2002) sold 8.5 million copies. Nellyville (2002), his second album sold 6 million copies.
The album he is currently working on is yet to be titled, but in a recent interview, he said he was really excited about it. I just hope he doesn't try to re-create a single like "Just A Dream", and put up album fillers to complete the album. Personally, i think "nelly" is one of those trending rappers; they come out and they are the biggest thing out because they are very different. The only thing is that rappers like that don't last. Of course they would sell a lot of records, but when people are tired of a particular sound, they move on to the next new thing.
It is cool that Nelly was wise and he invested a lot of his money. If you didn't know, he is the owner of "Apple Bottoms", the female clothing line that deal in jeans/denims. And he also has had endorsement deals with Reebok, Nike, Ford Motor Company and Got Milk. I almost missed out his Vokal Clothing line which he started back in 1997 with his cousin, Yomi Martin. By the way, Yomi Martin has been behind management of most of his companies.
