Nicki Minaj Apologizes For Controversial 'Lookin As Nigga' Cover-Art

Apparently Nicki Minaj released a single on Wednesday that had Malcom X on the cover, and it has gotten a lot of negative responses from the public. The song, 'Lookin As Niggas' is all about how worthless niggas (black men) can be, and people feel it is very inappropriate to have Malcom X on the cover of a song like that. Malcom X fought for the upliftment of the black man, and that is in no way related to what Nicki portrayed in the song. Anyway, she has apologized for the controversial cover

Below is the apology, which can be found on her Instagram page-

What seems to be the issue now? Do you have a problem with me referring to the people Malcolm X was ready to pull his gun out on as Lookin Ass Niggaz? Well, I apologize. That was never the official artwork nor is this an official single. This is a conversation. Not a single. I am in the video shooting at Lookin Ass Niggaz and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!!!! It is in no way to undermine his efforts and legacy. I apologize to the Malcolm X estate if the meaning of the photo was misconstrued. The word “nigga” causes so much debate in our community while the “nigga” behavior gets praised and worship. Let’s not. Apologies again to his family. I have nothing but respect an adoration for u. The photo was removed hours ago. Thank you,”

Personally, I think she should have known better. There is no correlation with what she raps about and what Malcom X stood for. Why do this to yourself? Unless this was done for cheap publicity, I think she should have been wiser than that. It just might be for publicity, cos, no offence, but I wasn't checking for the song till everybody started talking about the cover on twitter, and I decided to download and listen to the song.
