For all the younger generation of readers up in here, John Forte was with Wyclef and the rest of the Refugee (Fugees) Allstars back in the day. Hell, he even had a couple of hits of his own...I can remember me and my brothers rocking to Ninety Nine (Flash The Message) in 1998; that was a crazy radio jam. He went on to be sentenced to 14 years imprisonment after being caught at the Airport with $1.4 million dollars worth of Cocaine.
George Bush pardoned him in 2008, and he got out early. He has been recording songs since then, and even released a lukewarm album a couple of years ago. Having been a major producer on the Fugees Classic album and a part of the team, he was asked what he felt about a possible Fugees re-union and this is what he said-
“I’m going to make an analogy, and I don’t know if most listeners are in tune with it, but last night, I was listening to Bob Dylan and I listened to one of his older songs from that era and I was listening to one of his new albums. There are certain periods - like you said, lightning in a bottle - where we hear Sam Cooke singing, ‘A Change is Gonna Come,’ when it comes out during the time that it was needed to come out. You can get the best R&B artist or vocalist today to cover that song, and while it might be a great cover, it might not have the same poignancy and relevance to whatever the current paradigm is. Who knows? I’m not saying that a reunion will or will not happen. That’s probably above my pay grade. But what happened during that time was supposed to happen for that time.”
To put that in plain English; it is not going to happen. I have been saying this for a while now- there isn't ever going to be a fugees re-union.
