One of the greatest rappers of all time, the late Notorious B.I.G (a.k.a Biggie) might have released two full length albums in his lifetime, but his face sure is on the Mount Rushmore of Hip Hop. Lil Kim, who was his lover, protege/sidekick back when he was alive recently revealed one of his biggest dreams.
During her interview on Biggie's 19th year death anniversary (Biggie died on March 9th 1997) at Hot 97 FM radio with Funkmaster Flex, Lil Kim got talking about Biggie and some things we might not have known about him, then she got into the discussion of his second album, Life After Death. And from there, she revealed one of Biggie's biggest dreams.
'You know, before he...before he passed, one of his dreams, he wanted to see himself go diamond. So, we...he used to always say that. Cos you know, back then you know, you would be able to open up the soundscan where you could look at everything, the diamond next to name and everything. He used to see the diamond next to certain rock stars, and he used to be like, "see that diamond right there? That's what you...that's what we need...that's what we need" You know...and he used to always say that and so after he passed and he went diamond, it was like an emotional moment for us. Cos we was like, damn! He could see this...You know.' Interview on Hot 97 Radio)
And Biggie sure got his dream. Cos two weeks after his death, his second album, Life After Death was released; it sold 690,000 copies first week, and went on to sell Diamond. In case you don't know what Diamond certification is...That is when an album or song sells ten million copies.
