Missy Speaks On Her Debut Album- Supa Dupa Fly

Around the time Puff (diddy) was changing the sound of hip hop in the mid 90s with Biggie and Mase, Missy also came along to take that sound to the future. Missy Elliot dropped her Supa Dupa Fly in 1997, and with a little help from Timbaland, she gave us that futuristic sound and flow...she is still the most successful female rapper ever. The triple threat- she could sing, dance and rap. Around the late 00s, she disappeared from the scene when she was trying to handle her Autoimmune Disorder, but she is back again. In a recent interview, Missy said Supa Dupa Fly still leaves her in awe whenever she listens to it.

"I consider Supa Dupa Fly a great album because everything about it," she said. "You hadn't heard it before, you hadn't heard that sound. Even the rap flows were different. I think it was 10 years ahead, 15 years ahead. It's funny, we did that album in two weeks."

'The Rain' video was like a puzzle. Because if you didn't get the record, once you saw the visual, it made all the sense in the world. It kind of told you who I was, not even just the record. it's like, this girl's finna be a character. She's going to be something different."

Missy has sold a cumulative 30 million records, and 4 of her 6 albums are platinum, while the last two went Gold. Her 7th album, Block Party has no due date yet, but it is scheduled to drop before the end of the year. She has already released two singles from the album, 9th Inning, and Triple Threat- both featuring long-time friend, collaborator and producer, Timbaland.
