Lil Wayne used Jay-Z's secret to success.

People just hear of wayne being so successful and selling records, not everybody knows what he went through before he made it to where he is right now.

Let me explain what i mean by "lil wayne used jay-z's secret to success". A lot of people do not know that jay-z's first album, reasonable doubt, although being certified classic, it did not go platinum, his second album, in my life time even was a worse album, commercially than the first album, but jay-z kept at it. He had already made up his mind that what ever happened, he knew success didnt come overnight and he would keep dropping albums every summer, that is every year, till he made it.

That is what i call persistance, and it works in all spheres of life. So by the thrid album, hardknock life, he got a very good rap single with a commercial chorus, and bam! That was the start of big things. He went on to sell 5 million copies of that album, and the rest is history. And after that success, jay's first 2 albums went plat beacues of the success of the third album.

Same goes for the second mr carter, lil wayne, who's road to success was rougher than jay's.

Lil waynes first three albums were failures commercially, or at leats just normal, not great success's. I can bet you do not even know his first three albums.

Before he dropped his fourth album, the carter, in 2004, he said regardless of success, he would drop the carter 2 the next year and then the carter 3 in 2006. So he already planned that he would drop the carter 3 in 2004.

After the carter 1 dropped, people started noticing his talent, that had been slept on for years. He dropped the carter 2, and there was no turning back. He started getting guest appearances on other people's songs, and he was doing a pretty good job. So he got more guest appearances and more popularity.

He dropped carter 2 in 2005 as promised, but when he so how popular he had gotten from featuring on other people's songs and howmuch he was making (between $50,000-$150,000 per song). He decided not to drop carter three in 2006. He pushed it to a 2007 relaese date, then again to 2008.

So when he dropped earlier this year, 2008, and sold 1 million copies in his first week,. you know he had done his homework. He more than did his home work, he over did it.

So don't ever hate on lil wayne that he plays with rap too much, he has a right to, for all he went through.

  1. Good post. It's also interesting how much naming their albums in series have helped them sell more the longer the series goes on, i.e. Carter V and BP3.
