Album Review: Compton (Dr. Dre)

Dr. Dre finally released an album, after a decade of delay. It isn't Detox, but it is a Dre album. And you know Dre is known for banging beats, dope rhymes, and great production; you get all that on this album. Like any other Dre album, he has a lot of guest appearances, mostly from his proteges as usual. There are even a couple of songs he doesn't even appear on at all; this is not also new to a Dr. Dre album. The fact that it says at the bottom of the album cover "A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre" makes all the numerous guest appearances more acceptable.

On the album, you have new Dre proteges spitting fire, from King Mez, to John Connor, to Kendrick Lamar. You also have old Dre Proteges like Game, Eminem, and Snoop Dogg. I wonder why 50 Cent didn't make a guest appearance.

One thing I noticed about this album, which some die-hard Dre fans might not like is the fact the good doctor's signature heavy voice is not very prominent. In fact, you have to listen hard to recognize his voice on some of the songs. More like he got a bit lazy, and just went with the flow and voice of his ghostwriters. But he gave us that old Dre sound on the album's last song, Talking to My Diary.

There is great production on this album with every song, and of cos, the doc will always make you nod your head to the beat, no doubt. Overall, it is a good album, but definitely not in the same league as his first two albums (Chronic, and Chronic 2001). I would give the album an 7.5/10 in rating.
