Rick Ross Gives Take on the Gay Topic in Hip Hop

Hip Hop is generally Homophobic, and there has never been an openly gay rapper in the history of the genre of music. Macklemore got a lot of hate from the hip hop community for even daring to make a song about same-sex marriage, so it is clear that it will be a while before rappers can really be accepting of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community. In a recent interview on Huff Post Live, Rick Ross was asked of his opinion on this, and he said...

"You can't tell nobody which direction to take their art. That's the beauty of being creative in this thing we call art...I feel your personal life is your personal life. In my personal life, you do whatever you do. That's your business." (Huffington Post)

True...true. But your average rapper or hip hop listener is very close-minded, and don't want to know all that. It is even cool that we are slowly living the era of 'If you ain't gangsta you ain't dope.' Unless people don't want Hip Hop to grow, it can't remain the same as it was in the 80s and 90s. Things are a little better for African-Americans in America...there are hundreds of black millionaires under 30, so why keep Hip Hop in the phase of when just a few black men could make a living off rapping? And as Ross, said, you can't tell anyone how the direction of their art should go...if it is that way, then Hip Hop shouldn't be classified an art form any more.
