Okay, it is another Saturday, and below are 11 Hip Hop facts
you might not know.
11. Rick Ross was signed to Suave House Records before he
later got with Def Jam Records. At the time, he was going by the stage name- Teflon
The Don, and was meant to release his first studio album, "Rise To Power" in
2000, but his record company had some issues with their parent company. The
album was later released in 2007...a year after his Def Jam debut album (Port
Of Miami)
10. Aubrey Graham, a.k.a Drake started out as a teenage
actor back in the early 2000s, on the Canadian TV show, Degrassi: The Next
Generation.
9. The Beastie Boys
were the first rap act to reach number 1 on the Billboard chart.
8. Rakim & Jay-Z
ghostwrote Dr. Dre’s “The Watcher” track back in 1999.
7. Jay-Z’s The
Blueprint album dropped on the same day as the 9/11 world-trade Centre bombing,
and still debuted at number on the Billboard chart, and went on to sell over 2
million copies.
6. Tupac’s mom was
very political, and was involved with fighting the system as a member of the
Black Panthers back in the 70s. She was pregnant in prison, and gave birth to
Pac the day after she was released from jail.
5. Beyonce’s sister,
Solange once had a crazy crush on Nas as a teeenager. She used to get his name
encrusted on her finger nails, and once got suspended from school for not
wanting to take down Nas's Godson album poster. She finally got to meet him
face to face when her friend, Bow Wow introduced them at an event. She was
so awestruck that she didn't want to let go of Nas after they had hugged...Nas
ended up loosing some of his blazer buttons.
4. The late D12
rapper, Proof was the best man at Eminem’s wedding in January 2006.
3. 2 Pac’s double CD
album, "All Eyez On Me" (1996) took only 2 weeks to produce; including mixing of
the songs by the engineers. The album had a total of 27 tracks.
2. In 2000, Bow Wow
earned a spot in the Guniess Book of World Records as the youngest rapper to
have a number 1 hit single on Billboard with “Bounce With Me.” He was just 13 years old at the
time.
1. Puff
Daddy (a.k.a Diddy) gave the late Notorious B.I.G’s family the $3 million
generated by “Missing You”- the tribute track he and Faith Evans had recorded
for Big shortly after his death back in 1997.
