Yea, that is a very rare Hip Hop fact right there. Faith Evans (Biggie's widow) and Redman actually dated while they were teenagers back in the mid 80s. They are both originally from New Jersey, and they had met in the church. Faith Evans was a singer in church, and Reggie Noble (Redman) was a drummer...before he became one of the best rappers ever.
During a recent Drink Champs interview, one of the hosts (DJ EFN) brought up the fact that when Faith Evans was on Drink Champs, she told them that Redman was her first boyfriend. Redman looked awkward for a minute, but went on to talk about how his mother once caught him in bed with Faith. Read his words below...
"Yea, me and Faith dated early. Yea! Yea! She sung in the church too. You know what's funny? Faith was the first woman...I never said this too...first woman my mother caught us in the bed with. Word is bond...Yo, she was the first woman my mother caught us with...my mother came in that room, she was like, 'get your motherf*&king asses up out my goddamn room.' Yo, but that was my love though...we went up in the game, we always remained friends."
What an interesting story. It is also interesting to know how Redman and Biggie actually became pretty close friends. Faith actually narrated this during her own Drink Champs interview. She said she was always going to Bransons (a weed spot in Harlem, New York back in the 90s) and Redman would always be there, and some times he would be behind the counter. So, one night, Biggie asked her where she was always getting the jars of weed she comes home with, and she told him it was a spot that Redman usually hung out at. She eventually took him down there, and she, Biggie, and Redman and Biggie became really close friends.
