Taylor Swift Goes Platinum in a Week With "1989" Album

This is the third time she is doing this; her two previous albums also went platinum in their first week in stores. In case you don't know what platinum stands for, it means her album sold more than a million copies. After 7 days in stores, Taylor Swift's 5th album, "1989" sold 1.3 million copies. Whoa! That is a lot. And the fact that she has been consistent with this pattern shows she really is a force to reckon with right now in the music industry.

Her third album (Speak Now- 2010) sold 1,047,000 in its first week in stores, and her fourth album (Red- 2012) sold 1.2 million copies first week, so there sure is a progression in her album sales. her next album might just sell 1.5 million copies first week, and beat out Britney Spears as the female musician with the highest first week album sales in U.S history. Britney achieved that when her 2000 album, "Oops!...I Did It Again" sold 1,319,000 copies in its first week in stores.
