Top 5 Best Storytellers in Hip Hop

The art of storytelling is one skill in rap that has always fascinated me. It is easier for someone to string up a couple words together than for them to make those words have a life of their own. I will always respect rappers that tell tales in their raps because it takes a certain level of intelligence, imagination, and dedication to be able to do so. This is why I have put together this list of the top five rappers I consider the best story tellers in Hip Hop.

Please note that the people that made this list are not rappers that have made one or two storytelling songs, or several bland storytelling songs. The rappers who made this list have shown their ability to consistently create captivating story telling songs over and over again. Anyone can try to tell a story with their raps, but who paints that vivid image that makes it seem as if you are watching a movie while listening to them? For example,  read this two stories...'Mat was the son of a drug lord, and his girlfriend was a hoe. They lived the gangster life together, until before...' Compare that to this...'Sweat trickled down his face, as his shaky hands grabbed the wheel/Mat's eyes went back and forth from rare view mirror to the black stainless steel...'

Top 5 Hottest Female Rappers Right Now (2014)

Even though the majority of rappers in Hip Hop are male, there are still a pocket of very good female rappers to look out for. I want to use this post to recognize those female rappers that keep doing their thing, even though they get little support in this male dominated music genre. Before I go on with the list, I would like to clarify something; this is a list about the top five HOTTEST female rappers RIGHT NOW. I put emphasis on what this list is all about, so words don't get misconstrued. This list has nothing to do with who was the hottest at one time, or who is currently the most lyrical. This list is about the hottest; that means, the hottest in the mainstream...the hottest on radio, online, and TV.

Okay, we got that out the way, let's proceeds.

5.  Nitty Scott, MC

Nitty Scott is a Brooklyn, New York native, who became popular after she was featured in 2011's B.E.T Cypher. I can never forget the feeling I hard when she dropped her verse; I was  like, 'where has this girl been?' And to top it up, she is a very beautiful girl. Since her Cypher appearance at BET, she has released a couple of mixtapes, and an EP. She is still an independent artist, but she has a buzz online. She is super lyrical and poetic too. You can check out her DEEP COVER  freestyle, and her Passive Aggressive song.

4.  Rapsody

I don't even look at Rapsody like a female rapper, and this has nothing to do with looks or anything, but the fact that she just drops her bars without that cadence that most female rappers like to use. The North Carolina rapper is definitely on the rise. She's signed to veteran producer, 9th Wonder's Jamla Records, and she is associated with DJ Premier.

3.  Angel Haze

The first song I heard from Angel Haze was her version of Eminem's Cleaning Out My Closet. That song was so intense, and the way she weaved her words to tell her story just got me hooked. Her biggest strength is in getting personal with her lyrics. The Brooklyn rapper is signed to Republic Records/Island Records, and she dropped her debut album, Dirty Gold last year.

2.  Nicki Minaj

Everyone knows Nicki Minaj. In fact, since she blew up on the scene in 2009, she has not had any competition with any other female rappers in Hip Hop. She had to go wake up the Lioness, the original Queen B, Lil Kim, as that was her only worthy opponent. Nicki Minaj is the most success female rapper of the last five years, no competition at all. She is signed to Lil Wayne's Young Money Records, and Birdman's Cash Money Records. She is currently prepping the release of her third studio album (Pink Print), and has a hit single out right now- Pills & Potion. If not for the person at number One, she would be at that position without even trying.

1.  Iggy Azalea

Yea, Iggy Azalea is the hottest female rapper in hip hop RIGHT NOW. I am not saying she is a better rapper than Nicki Minaj, or better than the other female rappers on this list, but she is HOTTEST on the scene right now. Her debut album, The New Classic was released 2 months ago, and has sold 180,000 copies so far. She has many successful singles off the album; one of them, Fancy has sold close to 2 million copies so far. She has made a lot of successful collaborations this year alone; including Problem with Ariana Grande, and No Mediocre with her mentor, T.I.

Nas Discusses Being Top 5 in Hip Hop on 'Real Time With Bill Maher'

Nas is out there promoting the 20th Anniversary reissue of his debut album, Illmatic, which is titled Illmatic XX. The album is dropping on April 15th, and he was on Real Time With Bill Maher speaking about the album yesterday. During the course of the interview, Bill said he had seen an MTV list where Nas was named number five best rapper of all time, and asked what Nas thought about that. And Nas said...

"Yea...nah, it's crazy cos, it's like, you know? Kids are always gonna have their number one's. You know? I'm 40, so kids, they got their new guys now. So, for me to be a number five is like uhm! It's it's a humbling thing for me. I'm really, I'm really excited to keep my career going now, because if I can stay number five right here, in anybody's list, in the mainstream, cos I'm not mainstream. I think I'm not mainstream. So if that mainstream audience can see me in the top five, I'm good money" (Real Time With Bill Maher)
