Stevie Wonder Criticizes Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne has been getting a lot of hit in the last couple of days. First it was the Till family, now the legendary Stevie Wonder. Wayne had rhymed- "beat that pussy up like Emmett Till" on the remix of Future's Karate Chop song. By the way, Emmett Till was a 14 year old African American boy who was brutally beaten to a pulp, shot in the head and dumped in the Tallahatchie River for whistling at a white female in Mississippi back in 1955. Racism was at it's heights in America back then, especially in the southern part. Emmett was a young kid from visiting from Chicago on holidays. The case of his death was taken to court, but no arrests were made even though the culprits were known.

"You can't equate that to Emmett Till. You just cannot do that," he explained. "I think you got to have someone around you that - even if they are the same age or older - is wiser to say, 'Yo, that's not happening. Don't do that'...sometimes people have to put themselves in the place of people who they are talking about. Imagine if that happened to your mother, brother, daughter or your son. How would you feel? Have some discernment before we say certain things. That goes for me or any other writer." (hiphopdx.com)


Future's label, Epic Records has already pulled the song (karate chop) out of circulation.

Emmett Till's Family Blasts Lil Wayne

On the remix of Future's Karate Chop, Lil Wayne rhymed- "Beat that pussy up like Emmett Till." For those that don't know who Emmett Till is/was, he was a 14 year African American boy that was brutally murdered in Mississippi for flirting with a white female. At the time, Racism was still at its heights  especially in the Southern part of the U.S. For Wayne to use something that sensitive in a rhyme greatly upset the Till family. Emmett Till was actually beaten to a pulp for whistling at a white lady...beaten to death.

Below is what Emmett Till's cousin, Airickca Gordon-Taylor had to say-

“To compare his murder and how beaten and how bullied, beatened, and tortured he was to the anatomy of a woman was really very disrespectful,” said Taylor in a video posted on RapRadar.com. “We found it dishonorable to his name and what his death has meant to us as a people and as a culture. It was offensive not only to us, but to our ancestors and to women and to themselves as young, black men. I just couldn’t understand how you could compare the gateway of life to the brutality and punishment of death. And I feel as though they have no pride and no dignity as black men.”

“Our family was very offended, very hurt,” Taylor revealed. “Disturbed by it…Our young people they emulate what they see, what they hear, and what they’re immersed in. And then we question them as they grow up and become citizens and they’re supposed to be productive in society and they’re not productive. And society is already criminalizing our young, black men at every opportunity they have. So it just really concerns us that here you are using Emmett Till’s name in such an egregious way and you’re not having any respect for yourselves as well as our family. And that’s the biggest concern. We’re concerned about our young people as well as the image of Emmett Till.” 

At this point in his career, it is evident that Lil Wayne has nothing more to talk about than pussy, sex, and more pussy. Every single verse he has dropped in the last 2 years has been nothing but that...so, I understand the Till family's concern.
