Sway Speaks on 50 Cent's Departure From Shady-Aftermath

It is just hard to imagine 50 Cent without Eminem and Dre...not like he really needs them at this point, but because he has been with them for so long (12 years), people find it hard to believe that 50 is totally independent right now. Radio personality and MTV host, Sway Calloway spoke on 50 Cent's departure from Shady-Aftermath.

“50 has always been honest about his relationship with Interscope. When things weren't going well he spoke out about it...I think honestly, I feel like 50 probably outgrew Interscope. The business mind that he's developed over the years, you know? And he’s a master at branding. He always has been. And I don’t think we’ve seen the success from him in recent years that he had in the past years. And perhaps a lot of that may have to do with that relationship...In terms of what it means for Hip Hop, that’s just one more of us who are taking matters in their own hands and becoming autonomous in controlling everything. Why not? I mean, he’s his own creation. And he’s shown and proved that he knows what he’s doing. He knows the world of business. He’s been very successful at it. And honestly man, Get Rich Or Die Tryin' was one of my—I would say album of the millennium for me. I remember when 50 mania first broke we were very instrumental in helping him with that exposure with radio and with MTV.” (XXL Magazine)
