Who Are Rap's Living Legends?

I know a lot of people give credit to the late great rappers, Tupac and Biggie. I think they made a lot of impact in Hip Hop while they were alive and after they passed on. They are legends no doubt, but I would also like for the ones that are still alive today to get the credit they deserve. I think for a rapper like Snoop to still be making relevant music after 21 years in the game is commendable. Changing styles, switching up his flow, changing his name, all these things can't take away the fact that Snoop Dogg, or Snoop Lion as he is now known as, is a living legend in Hip Hop.

And of cos, N.A.S are the letters that spell; NAS!!! This is not because I am a super Nas fan, but because it is a fact. I always credit myself for never being biased with my judgements. When Nas made the Hip Hop Is Dead album that was meant to make a statement and set a standard for how authentic hip hop should be done, he didn't make a great album. And I always told people that. So, I wont say Nas's career doesn't have some dents in it, but he gets better with every misstep. And for someone to still be respected 21 years after he dropped his first single (Halftime), he definitely is a rap legend. Even Kanye West rapped- 'What do it take to be a legend like Nas is?'

I also consider Eminem a living legend, no doubt. And you got Jay-Z, Scarface, Rakim, the whole Wu Tang Clan, Slick Rick, DMX, KRS1, LL Cool J, Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Fat Joe, Diddy and Busta Rhymes. These are the people I consider legends in Hip Hop. I actually got inspired to write this from reading a post similar to this on realtalkny.uproxx.com/... Below are some interesting comments I got from there.

If we’re talking about rap skills, then BKAllDays list pretty much sums it up.
If we’re talking about sales and impact on the game then you have to throw Nelly in there. Him and JaRule were ahead of their time as far as mixing melodies with rapping goes (yea bone thugs did it first but Nelly and Ja had their own twist on it). Also got to throw Puff in there, primarily for his impact on the game and longevity. Outside of that, you also got Outkast. The list isn’t long but at the forefront is Em, Nas and Jay, no question. I also think Fab is one classic album away from being on the list, but that’s just my opinion.

4. KRS One
5. Run DMC (The showed the world that Rap and crossover and is here to stay)
6. Eminem (no debate needed)
7. DMX (came in with a hunger and a drive at just the right time to feel the spot left by the death of 2Pac. He meets all the criteria of a legend. Too bad the drugs own him)
8. Puff Daddy (based off of the entire movement he started and the lifestyle he brings to Hiphop)
9. Will Smith (I mean… He won the first grammy as a rapper, sold over $1 BILLION in movie sales, had a long stand sitcom based off of his rap persona (Fresh Prince), is a household name WORLDWIDE, and all that is built off him being a rapper. He showed every kid that inspires to be a rapper that movies is possible and the potential for success is endless.)
