Between 2002-2005, Scott Storch was one of the biggest Music producers in Hip Hop. Storch is responsible for songs like Dr. Dre's Still D.R.E (1999), and Fat Joe's super hit, Lean Back (2004). The funny looking white boy was cashing out. But, things started going downhill for him from around 2006. The one time millionaire had to file for bankruptcy in 2008. He lost all his flashy lifestyle possessions, and his $10.5 million Miami mansion was foreclosed.
I always believe you have to go to the beginning to understand how things ended up. Scott Storch was born to a very musical family background. His mother, Joyce Yolanda Storch was a singer from back in the days when she went by the name Joyce Carol, and was signed to Cameo-Parkway Records. Although his father, Phil Storch was a court reporter, he also got into music at some point. Storch's uncle, Jeremy Storch was the founder of soul-rock band, The Vagrants. So, Scott Storch was influenced by music all around him.
His parent's divorced in 1983, and Scott lived in between two homes, till he became independent in his late teens. His mother, Yolanda spoke about how Scott's father lived on the fast lane, and had a fetish for sport cars. She said he bought 30 cars, from Porsche's to Lincoln's during the 13 years they were married. You can guess this is where Scott Storch got his lavish lifestyle from. But you can give his mom some credit for enrolling young Scott for piano lessons, making him an expert at age 12.
He started his rise to fame when he was discovered by Dereck Jackson, a young music scout, while he was performing with his then Hip-Hop band, Square Roots. Jackson got him signed to Geffen Records, and one of the early members of The Roots back in 1992. After a couple of years going on tour with them, Jackson got Storch an advance of $10,000 to get him signed to Ruff House Records. Where he joined a conceptual hiphop/soul/pop trio called Madd Crop. And then in 1998, female rapper, Eve introduced Scott Storch to Dr. Dre. The legendary producer was working on his second album (Chronic 2001) at the time, and he needed some in-house producers, like he always does. He recognised Storch's talent on the keyboard, and that's how Scott Storch went on to co-producer's one of Dre's biggest hits, Still D.R.E.
From then on, things were up-hill for Storch. He started his own production company, Tuff Jew Production. As his success grew, his lifestyle became hollywood style. He dated a series of celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Lil Kim, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. His biggest hit till date is Fat Joe's Terror Squad hit, Lean Back (2004). His other notable hits include Eve's Let Me Blow Your Mind (2001, co produced by Dr. Dre), Justin Timberlake's Cry Me A River (2002, co-produced by Dr. Dre), Beyonce's Baby Boy feat. Sean Paul (2003), Ja Rule's Clap Back (2003), G-Unit's Poppin Them Thangs (2003, co-produced by Dre.), Mario's Let Me Love You (2004), Game's Westside Story (2005), 50 Cent's Candy Shop (2005), Lil Kim's Lighter's Up (2005)...
At the height of his career, Scott Storch had over a dozen high-end cars, including a $500,000 Maybach, a $600,000 Mercedes SLR McLaren, and a $1.7 million black Bugatti. At a time he was worth an estimated $70 million. He lost every thing. His $10.5 million mansion was foreclosed; Bryan "Baby" Williams, Cash Money Records co-founder bought the house last year. Scott sold off his $20 million yacht for $600,000. His cocaine addiction ruined his working relationship with artists, and he started losing works. In 2009, he went to rehab for for 2 months. Presently, Storch is trying to make a come back. He is working closely with Dr. Dre on his Detox album.
