Some Hip-Hop Facts You Might Not Know
As I've said before, I would bring you this every Saturday, so I am keeping my promise. Below are 11 Hip-Hop facts you might not know-
11. Game only officially started rapping in 2002. He had been shot 5 times at his apartment on October 1st, 2001. And while recovering from his wounds, he asked his brother to go out and get him all the Hip Hop classics. He studied the greats and officially started rapping in 2002 (before then, he was a local drug dealer).
He was on the verge of signing to P.Diddy's Bab Boy Records when Dr. Dre heard one of his mixtapes, and signed him to his Aftermath label in 2003.
10. Mase and Cam'ron used to be in a rap group called Children of the Corn in the early 90s; other members of the crew were Big L (deceased), Bloodshed (deceased), Digga, and Herb Mcgruff. At the time, Mase was going by the stage name- Murda Mase, and Cam was Killer kam.
9. Kanye West has over 12 million followers on twitter, but only one "following"- Kim Kardashian.
8. Jay-Z has the record for the rapper with the highest numbers of platinum albums- 11. All his albums have sold over a million copies individually.
7. Some notable sites show that Nicki Minaj was born Dec 8, 1984, but her original date of birth is Dec 8, 1982.
6. J.Cole's mother is a Caucasian (a white woman), while his dad is African American.
5. Around 2001/2002, JD had an interview with XXL Magazine, where he was noted to have said that Dr. Dre and Timbaland can't do what he does, and that he is crushing all his competition. Tim and Dre took that as a disrespectful act, and dissed him on Eminem's "What You Say" track, which was produced by Timbaland, and appeared on Eminem's 2002 album, "The Eminem Show". Dre rhymed- "Over 80 million records sold, and i ain't have to do it with 10 or 11 year olds". Referring to JD making money from kid rappers, Bow Wow, and Kris Kross.
4. Eminem's "The Marshall Marthers LP" is the best-selling Hip Hop album of all time. It has sold 11.6 million to date, in the U.S alone.
3. MC Hammer's "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em" is the second best-selling Hip-Hop album of all time; selling over 10 million copies in the U.S alone.
2. Brandy and Ray J are first cousins of Snoop Dogg.
1. At the Quad studio in 1994, Tupac was short 5 times and still managed to take the elevator to the floor where Biggie and Puffy were recording. 2 Years later, he was shot 4 times in Las Vegas while living the Tyson/Seldon fight...he died after 6 days.
