I guess a lot of people misuse that word- "real". In hip hop, a "real rapper" has to be from the hood and have sold drugs and stuff. They appoint the title of the realest rapper to the one that is able to keep up this act, and make the people believe he is the epitome of that image most hip hop listeners have in their heads. But when Drake tells the world that he is one of the realest rappers in the game, i have to agree.
Read up what Drake said about this below-
I just sort of exist and people embrace it. I'm
one of the few artists who gets to be himself every day. It doesn't take
me six hours to get ready and I don't have to wake up in the morning
and remember to act like this or talk like this. I just have to be me.
That's one of the favourite parts of my life - I've done this purely by
being myself."
This is 100% true. I laughed at the part where he said he doesn't wake up and remember to act one way, or speak one way. I totally agree with Drake; he doesn't have try to be gangsta, or show off his new car, or new chain, or put up a mean mug and all that. He sings, yea, we know that, but he is one damn good rapper when it comes to dropping a mean 16. I just feel you can have a longer career when everything about you is real and you don't have to live up to anyone's expectations.
Drake raps about his life experiences. He wasn't raised in the hood, but that s not the only subject matter that should be of importance in hip hop. He raps about the ups and downs of his life, about his struggles before he became a known rapper or celebrity all together; his family issues; his female issues.
