Dipset head honcho Cam'ron recently revealed that he was responsible for writing one of Lil' Cease's most well-known verses.
In an interview with Hot 97's DJ Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg on their Juan Epstein podcast, Cam revealed that he wrote Cease's rhymes on Lil' Kim's 1996 track "Crush on You."
“What happened was, [Untertainment CEO Lance] Un [Rivera] gave Mase $30,000 to write five songs for Lil’ Cease at that time and Mase gave me $5,000 of the 30 to write one or two of the songs,” explained Killa. “I wrote the ‘Crush on You’ song and they ended up keeping it for Lil’ Kim album but it was really for Lil’ Cease. The original ‘Crush on You’ is all Lil’ Cease, Lil’ Kim isn’t even on the record.”
Unfortunately for Cam, he did not received any residuals from the track, which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music charts in 1997.
I think i can say this is not at all good for Lil Cease's image at all. How can 6 tracks be written for you; what do you do as a rapper then? That aint cool at all. I feel every rapper should write his own stuff. Okay, i can pardon if another rapper rights a hook for you, but how can another rapper write your whole verse for you. That is just how i feel.
And it is cool that mase could break off his friend, killa cam some dough. In case you didn't know, Mase, and Cam'ron were in a group together from back in the days. Back in the days, mase was called murda mase, and cam was called killa cam; that was before they bought got signed. They grew up in the same hood, Harlem, along with Jim Jones.
