I was just reading an interview of Cash-Money records C.E.O, Baby, and i have to give the man two thumbs up. He has come a long way from 1999, when the group, Cash-Money millionaires came on the scene, to him having young-money records as an off-shoot from his imprint.
I can remember talking to my cousin on the phone, back in 99 and he was telling me about the group HOTBOYZ(lil wayne, young turk, juvenile and B.G), and i had never heard of them. He(my cousin) had just moved to Atlanta, and cash money was big there. After that day, i started checking for them, and before long, they hit big on the scene. I can remember Juvenile was the one with the must success, and me and my friend used to dress like him.
They enjoyed a little success, and then Baby(birdman) formed his own group called the Bigtymers with their in house producer, Mannie Fresh, and they also enjoyed some success. But the hotboyz had broken up, and cashmoney started to fizzle away around the early 00's.
This is the time i want to talk about; from 2001-2005, cash money didn't have that huge buzz they used to enjoy, and what they now enjoy, but baby kepy grinding and kept supporting his golden child (lil wayne). Wayne started building that buzz again with the release of his Carter1 album in 2004, and the Carter2 the following year. As wayne grew, and matured, so did his lyrical credibility. By 2006, his place as the next big thing was solidified. Through that year to 2007, he guest appeared on countless records from other artist, which further built the buzz for his 6th studio album; Carter3. Carter 3 was the most anticipated album of 2008, and did a million copies in its first week in stores. Cashmoney was set from when wayne dropped carter3.
When i see all the success that cashmoney is enjoying with wayne, drake and nicki minaj, i know what baby has put in to get what he is getting now. As it was written; 'what you rip, you shall sow'.
