Str8Buttah's "XYZ" Names His Top 5 Favorite Rappers

I love to know what people listen to...what inspire them to craft their own style. And having known XYZ (member of Str8Buttah) for some years now, and knowing his depth in Hip Hop, and versatility, I was curious to know who and who inspire him. By the way, apart from being a "one of a kind" multi-syllabic rhymer, he also makes some of the dopest Hip Hop beats I have heard from a Nigerian beat maker. He has made beats for such hip hop acts like Illbliss, Modenine, and ofcos, his group- Str8Buttah.

Below are his top 5 favourite rappers, in no particular order.

1. Yasiin Bey - I listen to him because he has a style that administers soul to the execution of the core essence of hip hop and he does it so effortlessly you start to believe he is not even trying + he got that rap-with-smile-on-the-face emcee look

2. Talib Kweli - His message is effectively packaged and transmitted in a voice, style, skill and delivery that no one can ever match.

3. Pharoahe Monch - I am a fan of complex lyrics, delivery and internal and multisyllabic rhyme schemes, this emcee is unbelievably the king of this.

4. Common - Poetry delivery on a soul-esque vocals. Rhyming scheme is super amazing.

5. Nas - Story telling has never been so vivid + god-emcee sentiments i can never escape.

XYZ's real name is Niyi Faleyimu. A graduate of Computer Science from the University of Lagos. Hip Hop Producer, Motion Graphics / Visual Effects Artiste and Video Director are some other skills you can tag to his name. He is working on dropping some beat tapes in the future- you can check out music from him here- str8buttah.com

D'Banj Shoots Video For New Single; "Bachelor"

D'Banj has dropped a couple of singles from his up-coming fourth album (Mr Endowed), and the latest is titled Bachelor. The G.O.O.D Music/Island Def Jam artist shot the video for the track in Atlanta, Georgia (U.S.A) a couple of day ago, and it is yet another single from his long awaited 4th album, Mr Endowed.

The video was directed by Sesan Ogunro (he is the one staring into a screen below), and should drop in a couple of weeks. I haven't heard the song, but i am guessing it is cool...for him to have shot an expensive looking video for it, it should be cool.

Ikechukwu Explains His Relationship With D'Banj

I remember a rumour making rounds some months ago...or years back (i can't remember), about Ikechukwu beating up D'Banj over a girl or something like that. The story wasn't really confirmed, but I always believe their is no smoke without fire. So, I was surprised when I started seeing pics of Ikechukwu hanging out with D'Banj in the U.K. I always had the idea that Ikillz was closer to Don Jazzy, but I guess I was wrong.

In case you don't know him, Ikechukwu is a Nigerian rapper, and a former artist under Storm Records. Check out what He had to say about his relationship with D'Banj below-

"I have heard a lot about my relationship with D'banj. Some people call me his houseboy, bouncer, and the rest, but let me say this, I have been close to D'banj since day one. The first time I saw him was at Obi Asika's house, when he was about signing to Storm Records...and if you're observant, you would have discovered that we have similar features; he's lepa just like me and we have same swagger. So we've created some kind of bond right from time which I was not opportuned to share with Don Jazzy. I only find people that find me, simple! Those that I am important to are those that are important to me. I am just chilling with D'banj and now that he's making a stand abroad, it's going to be stupid of me not to utilize the situation he already has. So, we are not just friends, we are also doing business" - The rapper tells Encomium magazine in an exclusive interview

I guess Ikillz is just being a sharp ibo boy if you know what I mean.

Game Brings Up 50 Cent Feud Again

I used to be a big Game fan...or maybe I still am a fan of his music, but I am really getting tired of his childish acts. Why wont people call him Bi-polar when he would say one thing today, and then say the opposite tomorrow. He will say he wants to reconcile with 50 Cent today, and then diss him again tomorrow. He and 50 Cent's beef started around 2005 when 50 kicked him out of G-Unit. Fortunately for him, he was originally signed to Aftermath (Dr Dre's label), and the G-Unit part-signing was just for buzz, so he was free to do what he wanted. He went full force at the whole G-Unit movement, and demolished them...but after that, there was no where else to put that energy, and he brought himself down too.

I have been listening to rap music for the past 18 years, and I can say that Game has a rare talent, but if only he could keep away from all the bullshit, and face the music as much as he gets tangled in all the controversy, he would be a better emcee. The picture below is that of Game in a 50 Cent energy drink promotional truck. 50 has always been about the money, and his latest investment is an energy drink called SK (Street King). Yesterday, Game put up the picture you are seeing below on Instagram as a sign of disrespect to 50. He scared the driver off, and took control of the wheel to portray 50 as a joke...isn't that ironic?

Okay, maybe it is a bit funny, but that is not what he needs to be doing right now. As I said, I still love it when he makes good music, cos he is talented as fuck. But, his recent display of childishness would get him nowhere in the music business. He needs to mind his own business and face his career squarely. He called 50 Cent out in 2005 for living off controversy, and he is doing exactly the same thing right now.

below is his tweet concerning the 50 Cent SK van.
"The driver seen me coming & [ran] !!! Now I'm headed to skidrow to give this nasty shit to the homeless #JesusPiece," he wrote.

By the way, Game is currently working on his 5th album (Jesus Piece), which he plans to drop 4th quarter, or first quarter of 2013.

Rap Albums on Billboard Chart

Although the album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, G.O.O.D Music's Cruel Summer album is the highest selling rap album for this week. It sold 205,000 copies after a full week in stores. And, ironically, another G.O.O.D Music artist, 2 Chainz is up next...his Based on A T.R.U Story album sold 17,000 copies this week, and now stands at a 288,000 total.

Tech N9ne makes it on the chart this week with his new album, E.BA.H, which sold 14,000 copies after 7 days in stores. Tech is fully idependent, so he probably made about $70k this week alone from album sales...that ain't bad.

Christian rapper, Lacrae's Gravity album sold 11,000 copies this week, and now totals at 103,000. Brother Ali sold 10,000 copies first week of his Morning In America And Dreaming In Colour album. Rick Ross is gunning for that Gold status; his "God Forives, I Don't" album sold 10,000 copies this week, and now stands at a total of 408,000 so far.

DMX's Undisputed album sold 7,500 copies in its second week in stores, and now stands at a two week total of 25,000. Nas's Life Is Good album is at a total of 301,000 copies sold, after selling 5,800 copies this week. 5,000 copies of Slaughterhouse's Our House album left shelves this week, and they are now at a total of 76,000.

Kreayshawn debuts on the chart this week, after selling 3,900 copies of her Something 'Bout Kreay album in its first week out.

Pics of Meek Mill's Cars

Even though he is yet to drop a studio album, MMG artist, Meek Mill has been balling hard. He has like half a dozen bikes, but my focus today is on his cars. Rick Ross got him a white Range Rover Sport ($60k) for his 25th birthday, and he got himself a white Rolls Royce Ghost ($270k).

He also got a 4-door matte black Aston Martin Rapide ($200k) around the time he dropped his Dreamchasers2 mixtape a couple of months ago. And the latest car he got is  another Rolls Royce Ghost (250k)...a black one this time. You can check them out below-

Official First Week Sales of G.O.O.D Music "Cruel Summer" Album

Kanye West and the crew(G.O.O.D Music crew- Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chainz...) were projected to sell around 170k first week of their Cruel Summer album, but they beat that and sold 205,000 copies first week. Congrats to them. One of my favorite songs from the album is Clique, which features Kanye, Jay-Z and Big Sean.

Update on Kanye's Sex-Tape

A couple of days ago, news surfaced that Kanye West had a sex-tape out there. And then a couple of days later, another news surfaced that they were actually two Kanye sex-tapes being shopped out there. Word out is that it was going for as high as $1,000,000. This is really funny. Kim Kardashian got famous from a sex-tape with Ray J, and now her boyfriend has a sex-tape out there.

I guess, the whole attention they (kim and kanye) get is the reason why the tape is going for so much. But, the latest update on the tape is that it is boring...

A sex tape featuring rapper Kanye West and an 18-year-old girl is being shopped around to various media outlets and porn distributors, but there's a good chance you may never see it. The problem, according to someone who has seen the tape, is that it sucks. "Saw the Kanye sex tape and I must say, it's actually kind of boring," our insider says, also confirming that Kanye does indeed appear in the video, and recorded the thing himself. (RumorFix)

Well, that isn't stopping Canada based adult site, Sex.com, who are willing to pay up to $5,000,000 for the tapes. Men!!! There must be a whole lot of money to be made in the adult movie world. See what the Sex.com had to say about the sex-tape.

Canada-based porn company Sex.com has just increased their offer for Kanye West's highly sought-after sex tape to $5 million. This comes after earlier reports that the Chicago rapper possibly has two X-rated home videos on the market. The official statement from Sex.com states, "By purchasing both tapes, Sex.com will bolster a Celebrity section like no other free, adult entertainment website. Upon purchase, Sex.com will exclusively host both videos for free in the Celebrity section and then begin packaging the sex-tapes together for a DVD release." (XXL Mag)

HAHAHAHA! Very funny.

Wyclef Opens Up About Cheating on His Wife With Lauryn Hill

This is one of, if not the major reason why The Fugees (Wyclef Jean, Pras, & Lauryn Hill) broke up. Their "The Score" (1996) album still remains one of the highest selling rap albums by a hip hop act; selling 18 million copies worldwide to date. Wyclef just released his Autobiography, titled Purpose: An Immigrant's Story, and in it he speaks on his relationship with Lauryn Hill while he was already married, and how the love between them died when she made him believe she was pregnant with his kid; later to find out it was for Rohan Marley (The Late Bob Marley's son).

Below is a direct quote from Wyclef-

"In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that.”

“She could no longer be my muse... Our love spell was broken.”

Clef got married in 1994 to Marie Claudinette, a Haitian, and fashion person. The Fugees had their first album (Bunted on Reality) in 1994, but it was their second album, The Score (1996) that got them worldwide recognition. So, while Wyclef was cheating on his wife with Lauryn, she was also cheating on him with Rohan Marley. But, i now can see where the energy for that album came from...it was the fire between them that birthed the creativity.

But, it must have been tough on Clef tho...i watched his interview on Wendy William's Show today, and he said he was actually at the hospital when she gave birth, and when he saw the baby, he knew immediately that it wasn't his. When Wendy asked him how he knew the bay wasn't his, he said- "the baby was yellow."

In case you don't know much about the Fugees, i would like to do a quick run through their story. Wyclef Jean and Pras Mitchell are cousins; and Lauryn Hill and Pras attended a New Jersey High School together. Pras and Lauryn were doing their music thing in school, and then Clef joined later. The Trio originally went by the name Tranzlator Crew in 1992, but changed that to The Fugees when they signed to Ruffhouse Records (distributed through Columbia Records) in 1993. Their first album (Blunted on Reality- 1994) didn't get much recognition, but their second album, The Score (1996) spawned hit singles like Ready Or Not, Killing Me Softly, Fugeela, and their own version of Bob Marley's No Woman No Cry.

After The Score in 1996, and Lauryn Hill giving birth to Rohan Marley's son (Zion) in 1997, they all went their separate ways. And people have been calling for a Fugees re-union since then, but as i have always said- it ain't ever gonna happen. By the way, Lauryn went on to have a total of 5 kids for Rohan. But they are now separated, and Rohan Marley is currently engaged to Brazilian supermodel, Isabeli Fontana.

First Week Sales Predictions of Lupe Fiasco's "Food & Liquor 2"

This is going to be Lupe Fiasco's 4th album since his debut in 2006 with Food & Liquor. This is a sequel, and it was meant to be a double disc, but he has decided to divide the release dates, and drop the second disc sometime in Dec. This one is set to drop tomorrow (Sept 25), and the full title is Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Part 1.

I usually don't like when rappers have long titles, or complex names for their albums, but being a Lupe fan, i am cool with this one. I predict the album would sell between 85-135k first week. His last album, Lasers dropped last year, and sold 204,000 copies first week, but it had a better buzz than this one. The singles (Around My Way, Bitch Bad, Lamborghini Angels...) that have dropped from this album just ain't hot enough. As i said, i am a fan of his music, but i am just saying he isn't appealing to a greater audience with this one. His last two albums had big first singles (Superstar, and Show Goes On), this one doesn't.

Pics of Kim Kardashian's Cars

As i put up a post with pics of Kanye West's cars a couple of days ago, i decided to also put up pics of Kim Kardashian's cars. Actually, the research on Kanye lead me to a lot of info on Kim. She too has a fertish for exotic cars, and she has quite a few. Considering the fact that she and the rest of the Kardashians recently got paid a whopping $40,000,000 to keep their Keeping Up With The Kardashians running for another 3 seasons on E Channel,  a couple of high-end toys shouldn't be a problem for her.

She owns a white Rolls Royce Ghost ($270,000); although the Ghost is not as expensive as the Phantom (there is about a 100k difference between the price range), it is just as exotic. One of her first cars was a black Bentley Continental GT ($180,000). She also has a white Ferrari 458 that cost $325,0000. She also owns a black 2010 Range Rover HSE ($80,000), and a black Rolls Royce Ghost ($270,000).

As usual, i have arranged the pics below as I listed the car names above, so that you would find it easy to know which car is which...have a nice viewing.

Rap Albums On Billboard Chart

2 Chainz has the highest selling rap album on the billboard chart this week; his Based On A T.R.U Story, which sold 21,000 copies this week, and now totals at 271,000. Lacrae's Gravity album sold 19,000 copies in its second week out, and now stands at 92,000 sold. DMX makes his debut this week with his new album, Undisputed, which sold 17,000 copies after one week in stores.

Rick Ross is at 398,000 copies sold of his "God Forgives, I Don't" album, which sold 12,000 copies this week. Slaughterhouse (Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5'9, Crooked I & Joe Budden) sold 6,600 copies of their welcome to: Our House album this week, and now stand at a total of 72,000.

Nas's Life Is Good album sold 5,800 copies this week, and now is at a total of 295,000. Kiss The Ring from DJ Khaled sold 5,200 copies this week, and now totals at 68,000 copies sold.

First Week Sales Projections of G.O.O.D Music "Cruel Summer" Album

Kanye West and his G.O.O.D Music team (2 Chainz, Pusha T, Big Sean...) dropped their group album (Cruel Summer) 2 days ago, Tuesday 18th Sept, and- based on first day sales, it has been projected to sell between 170-190k first week.

If you ask me, those numbers are cool for a group album. It is definitely an album that would stay on the chart far longer than most others dropping, so the first week sales don't really dictate what it would end up selling...it could end up selling a million copies.

It will take next week's No. 2 spot...it would have debuted at number one if Pink's new album, The Truth About Love didn't drop on the same day. Pink's album is taking the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart next week, with projections of 200-225k in first week sales.

What D' Banj Has Achieved

Considering D Banj's achievements so far, I really don't understand the hate he has been getting of late in his own country; whether it is the Illuminati talk, or the envy, it really is not warranted. First of all, the whole illuminati talk is all fairy tale, D Banj or even Kanye West is not in any secret society called Illuminati...even if there was this mythical secret society planning to "take over the world", they definitely wont admit a black man who is worth just a couple of million dollars. People just always make up things when they don't understand why an individual seem to be more successful than they can imagine.

So, what exactly has D Banj achieved? He has done what no other Nigerian has been able to do. Of course, people don't understand that right now, because he is still at the baby stage, but what he has done has never been done before...at least by a Nigerian. I'm sure a lot of people are screaming right now- "what about Fela?"..."what about King Sunny Ade?"...what about this person or that person. All those musicians are definitely more talented than D Banj, and more legendary, but they never were able to break into the International market the way D Banj is going through with it. Fela has been imortalized since his death, and has gotten more repsect and attention from the outside world than he got while alive. Even as great Fela's world tour with the Egypy 80 Band was back in the days, he never penetrated the international market to the point of having his music played on local radio stations in countries all over the world the way D Banj's Oliver Twist is getting played. It is not just Europe, people in the Middle East and as far as the Caribbean have sad they hear Oliver Twist played constantly on local radio stations.

Right now, some other people would be bringing up Sade Adu's name...or Seal, or Wale or even Taio Cruz; but what you have to know is that these people mentioned are first or second generation Americans, or Brits as the case may be. They were born in foreign countries (U.S.A and England), and became known making music related to those countries. They are no different from the Americans and Brits that we  know in the international music scene; it's only their roots that tie them to Nigeria. D Banj, although had a little unsuccessful stint in England with the JJC and 419 squard back in the days, became who he is today by making Nigerian style music, in Nigeria.

It was the local type of music he did that got him to be a super star, and that is what he imported to the world. I have to confess, when i first heard about Him and Don Jazzy's signing to Kanye's G.O.O.D Music label, i immediately concluded that the signing had to really be about Don Jazzy, and that D Banj just got tagged in cos of Jazzy. But ofcos, at that time, i knew nothing of the part ownership of Mo Hits between the two...i knew nothing of the fact that D Banj had always been the financial muscle behind their whole movement. With that knowledge, and the fact that D Banj has that raw energy and enthusiasm to succeed in him, i now know nothing can stop him. As i always say- Talent is never enough. I know that from first hand experience.

So, what i'm talking about? Think about it, the outside world (America and Europe in particular) most times don't care for lyrics, all they want is something with some melody that can make them shake to the rhythm or nod to. And with D Banj's style being foreign, i bet most of them would care less what he is saying. With the kind of energy and enthusiasm D Banj has, he would find good international producers to work with, and being already signed to Island DefJam Records (In America) and Mecury Records in Britain, nothing can stop him from exporting our raw form of music to the world, and gaining international stardom. By the way, no Nigerian music artist has ever been signed to a Major label like Island Def Jam before...i mean, never has a Nigerian been signed to a major American label coming straight from Nigeria. And i am not just talking distribution deals like the legends of the past did; i'm talking being signed as an artist.

D Banj is already touring with his G.O.O.D Music family...opening concerts for English super star, Rita Ora; hanging out celebrities like Ludacris, Kevin Hart, Common, and Jay-Z. And he doesn't have an inferiority complex; he sees them as equals. Why should he, when he is living the same lifestyle they live. Owning an Aston Martin, and a Bentley just from hustling your music in an African country like Nigeria is not moi moi. You have to give it to the kid. Actually, when i started reading and studying successful people is when i really started respecting him and his hustle. It takes more than talent to reach where he is right now...it takes big dreams...belief in self...committment to work, and a lot and lot of enthusiam. And he has got all these.

Official First Week Sales of DMX's "Undisputed" Album

I think DMX needs to start building again from here. Even though this album got very low promotions, I was expecting it would sell at least 40k copies first week. Undisputed is DMX's 7th album, and after a full week in stores, it sold 17,000 copies.

Back in the days, DMX went GOLD in first week in stores with his albums. His last album, which also didn't get much promotion, Year of The Dog (2006), sold 125k first week. I guess times have really changed. As I said, he needs to start rebuilding from here.  But, the album really is cool.

The album dropped last week Tuesday, 11th September.

Nicki Minaj To Be Paid $12,000,000 As Judge on "American Idol"

Nicki Minaj just got a big cash break with being chosen to be a judge on this year's American Idol show...and she is to be paid a whopping $12,000,000 for a year deal. As X Factor and The Voice are more or less getting hotter than American Idol, it is not a surprise that they would snag up Nicki to get more viewers from the the millions of Nicki's teenage fanbase. I also like the fact that they got Mariah Carey as a judge too....she definitely has more experience with music than Minaj, and would make the show more credible.

But inside sources say the two (Minaj and Carey) didn't seem to get along on the first day on set, as Mariah kept cutting Nicki off while she critiqued contestants...and Nicki overrode her voice every-time by speaking louder, and ignoring her.

Read more on the $12,000,000 deal Nicki got below-

The "American Idol" judges' panel is now complete with the naming of singer-rapper Nicki Minaj and country crooner Keith Urban. The Fox network officially tapped the pair with an announcement Sunday, confirming rumors surrounding them both just hours before the first round of auditions for next season was due to begin in New York. Minaj is getting $12 million for a one-year deal on the hit Fox singing series, a person in the music industry with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the deal. (Wall Street Journal)

Kanye West's Cars

Kanye West gets a lot of bad press, and is subject to a lot of controversy in the music industry, but you can't deny the man's talent. As a rapper, and also a producer, he has been able to stay relevant in the Hip Hop scene since he dropped his debut album, College Dropout in 2004.

With all the success he has attained, it is only right that he'd have some "bigboy toys"...he has a Maybach 57 ($380,000), an Aston Martin DB9 ($190,000), a Mercedes G Wagen (G 500- $100,000), a silver colour SLR McLaren Stirling Moss ($1,100,000)...and the recent ride his girl (Kim Kardashian) bought for him on his 35th birthday earlier this year- a matte black Lamborghini Aventador ($750,000).
